NEW
2010 Grant Program

Accepting Project Concepts for the General Grant Program

Apply by Thursday, November 5, 2009 for June 2010 grant awards

The FINRA Investor Education Foundation General Grant Program funds research or educational projects that provide underserved Americans with the knowledge, skills and tools necessary for financial success throughout life.

Applicants must first submit a simple, three-page Project Concept Form. Those whose projects closely align with the Foundation’s priorities and show good potential for success will then be invited to submit a full grant proposal. Project Concept Forms may be submitted at any time throughout the year; however, submission deadlines correspond to the announcement of grant awards in June and October of 2010. Project concepts received by Thursday, November 5, 2009 will be eligible for a June 2010 funding decision. Priorities for 2010 include:

  • meeting the financial and investor education needs of underserved audiences
  • using behavioral finance to improve saving and investing
  • creating new marketing and distribution channels for financial and investor education
  • helping Americans manage their finances and investments in retirement

The Foundation encourages strategic partnerships and seeks projects that demonstrate a strong application of social marketing (PDF 172 KB) techniques. Eligibility requirements and additional priorities are specified in the
Grant Guidelines.

New Research Focuses on Retirement Planning Programs

The most recent addition to Foundation-sponsored research was prepared by grantees from North Carolina State University, and presented at the Annual Conference of the Pension Research Council (2009). Their research paper, Employer-Provided Retirement Planning Programs (PDF 106 KB), examines employer provided financial education and preretirement planning programs and assesses their effectiveness in increasing knowledge and altering retirement behavior.

Through research and the development of new educational programs, FINRA Foundation grantees aim to improve investor literacy and the financial stability of all Americans. The Foundation is pleased to make these resources available on its Web site. We invite you to view the research and resources developed by and for its grantees to date.
